The change in work environment due to the COVID-19 pandemic has been a significant adjustment. While many will continue remote work well into the new year, creating a home office, finding time to relax and also staying active can be quite the challenge. However, at Avid Sports Medicine we offer Employee Wellness Solutions to help with all these things and more.
Create a New Home Office
Ergonomics are extremely important if you’ve had to adapt to a new home workspace. Sitting in a dining room chair at your kitchen table or on your couch all day can start to wreak havoc on your body. We offer workshops that can help you create a new home office using household hacks. Our workshops address the primary culprits of everything from neck and low back pain, to wrist, arm, and hand pain. These hour-long workshops include wellness techniques like how to perform a self-massage and our signature 10-minute body break. These exercises can be done throughout the workday to prevent and treat everyday pain and injuries. Check out our recent blog to see a preview of ergonomic tips while working from home.
Find Time to Relax
A recent survey of 1,000 U.S. employees found that 75% of individuals have struggled at work due to anxiety caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and other recent world events. This same survey also concluded that 4 out of 5 people who work from home find it difficult to stop working in the evenings. These statistics support the reality of burnout among many employees who are juggling work, home schooling, and personal health.
Relaxation is different for everyone. For some, relaxation is about stillness and rest; for others, relaxation is found in movement or creativity. Finding what works for you may take time and a willingness to try something new. We offer a variety of employee workshops that appeal to a wide audience, from meditation and yoga to dance, boxing, and cooking. We also offer free meditation every Monday at 5:30PM PT as a dedicated time to practice mindfulness in this chaotic world. Finding mental space through non-work activities, can improve the way we think and feel about our jobs, as well boost our performance and efficiency.
Stay Active
Many people may find themselves in the same position for most of the day when working from home. Whether sitting or standing, there are a number of physical and internal health risks associated with being in a static posture for prolonged periods. Building activity into your day is essential to help prevent everything from low back pain to diabetes. It’s great to get a workout in before work begins or even exercise after work hours. However, it’s not enough to move just once during the day. At Avid, we teach exercise routines that allow you to undo the stress of your desk and encourage you to step away from the screen at regular intervals. We offer strength and mobility, dance, and high intensity interval training group exercise classes that not only keep you moving, but also encourage social engagement and a fun work environment. Offering intentional movement through exercise is one of the best ways to promote wellness.
